According to a report from the New York Times, it looks like the days of the individual mandate, a key aspect of the original Affordable Care Act that forced all Americans to purchase health insurance or else pay a tax, are almost certainly soon to be over.

Eliminating the individual mandate is expected to generate about $300 billion over the course of the next 10 years, the Congressional Budget Office estimated.

“Mandating people to buy a product was a bad idea to begin with,” Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) told the Times. “We made people do something that was supposed to be good for them. But they are telling us by the millions how much they dislike the mandate.”
